Vagina Privacy Network: A new kind of VPN

Your body is your business — and no one else’s. It’s your right to access the information you need to make decisions about your body and your future.

But after the federal right to abortion was removed in the United States two years ago, we’ve seen a rise in attacks on our reproductive rights worldwide. Including the right to look for information about our health online.

As a global sexual and reproductive healthcare provider, we know that for many people, searching online is their primary source of information on abortion and contraception.

There are plenty of reasons why people want to keep this digital activity private. Maybe they want to avoid anti-choice ‘crisis pregnancy center’ websites that gather data on those searching for abortion. Maybe their partner monitors their phone use. They may even fear legal consequences, as in cases across the United States of women who suffered a miscarriage and were investigated for search activity about their reproductive healthcare.

That’s why we created the Vagina Privacy Network: a new kind of ‘VPN’ with a step-by-step protocol for those who want to stay anonymous online — so your private parts, stay private.

On the anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization — the landmark case that saw the federal right to abortion revoked in the United States, leading to a rise in anti-choice activity globally— we’re proud to launch the Vagina Privacy Network, a project to safeguard access to information worldwide.

Three ways you can help

Spread the word: We’ve created a social media toolkit to help you share this information with anyone who might need it. Click here to access the toolkit.

Learn more about anti-choice misinformation online: Earlier this year, a report from MSI Reproductive Choices and the Center for Countering Digital Health found that accurate information on abortion and contraception is being censored by global tech platforms, while anti-choice misinformation is spread unchallenged.

Donate: We provide contraception and safe abortion in 36 countries, while working to change laws and policies that restrict access to the reproductive healthcare people need to choose their futures. Your gift today helps power this work.
