In the run up to the event, MSI Kenya offered free vasectomy services and information to men across the country in collaboration with UNFPA.
MSI Kenya and partner organisations united to promote vasectomy as a safe and effective form of family planning.
At the event the Head of the Division of Reproductive and Maternal Health, Dr Edward Serem, emphasised that vasectomy does not harm male sexuality in any way: “There is a need to dispel the myths that surrounds vasectomy and focus more on the benefits it offers.”
MSI Kenya Country Director, Dr Joan Oracha, highlighted vasectomy as an opportunity for men to actively participate in family planning and relieve women of the sole responsibility for long-term and permanent contraception. UNFPA representative, Dr Dan Okoro, expressed appreciation for the collaboration between UNFPA and MSI, specifically commending the joint effort in providing free vasectomy services in Bungoma and Nairobi.
Bungoma County Director of Health and Medical Services, Dr Johnstone Akatu, took the opportunity to extend gratitude to MSI Kenya for their commitment to training health service providers and supplying them with the necessary equipment. This collaboration not only enhances the quality of healthcare but also ensures that the community has sustainable access to skilled professionals in reproductive health.
At the event, a satisfied client and father of five shared his personal experience of vasectomy, declaring: “My performance has not been affected, and I live peacefully knowing I cannot father an extra baby.”
